MOIC = exit value divided by entry cost — if you put in $10M and get back $30M, MOIC = 3×. IRR is the annual return rate that matches those cash flows over time, like a compound interest rate for the whole deal. You need both: MOIC tells you how much you made, IRR tells you how fast you made it.
