Most people spend months building something before anyone pays for it. That's backwards. The only thing that tells you whether an idea is worth pursuing is a transaction — real money from a real stranger who had no obligation to give it to you.

Product-market fit is the point where what you're selling matches what a specific group of people desperately want. Before that point, everything is a hypothesis. An idea in your head is a hypothesis. A business plan is a hypothesis. Even a polished prototype is still just a hypothesis. A transaction is evidence. The gap between those two things is everything.

Here's a concrete way to think about it: if you listed something for sale tonight and three strangers paid by morning, that isn't luck — that's a signal. It tells you demand exists, at this price, for this thing, right now. That signal is worth more than any survey, focus group, or market research report.

The principle is called evidence-first. You don't commit serious resources until you have at least one real transaction proving the demand is real. Then you run it again. Change one variable. See if it still works. Stack up evidence before you stack up costs.
